FALL WORK PARTIES
We still have to finish (siding etc) the newly rebuilt Armstrong Cabin. Trails need to be cleared of deadfall. Firewood needs to be chopped and stacked.
WE DESPERATELY NEED YOUR VOLUNTEER ASSISTANCE
We need to get some siding on the Armstrong cabin before winter, before all the wood starts to get wet. Please let me know who is available for:
Saturday October 22nd
-------------------------------------------------------------------Thanks very much to Dwayne, Bruce and Trevor - a significant amount of siding was installed on the cabin this week. It looks amazing and not anything like it did before. [see pics]
We’d like to get up this weekend and hopefully get it finished or close to it. Dwayne, who also donated the material, has taken the lead on getting this siding installed. He’s available Sunday and we’d like to have as many people as possible come up and help. If possible we could also use a few people on ATV’s with chainsaws to clear trail debris and put up some signs.
Meet at Baker’s Gate at 8:30 Sunday morning – contact me if you don’t know where that is.
In addition, Dwayne and Trevor may be making some trips up during the week to work on it, if you’re available.
Please let me know who can make it. This may be the last work party of the season depending on the weather, so please try and come out and help.
Thank you
Kevin
Please call Kevin at 250 308 2830 to let him know if you can make it.

October 15 work party (Armstrong cabin)
Thanks very much to Dwayne, Brian, Brad, Carl and Patti for coming out today. We got all the wood siding hauled up, unloaded and stored, the railing is on and stairs are fixed, brush cleared around the cabin and we’re all stocked up on firewood.
Dwayne has graciously volunteered to spend some time up there when he’s available to get the siding put on as well. These will be the last of the work parties for the year – if you haven’t made it out to any of the 6 work parties we’ve had, please try for the next two weeks. We need people to put siding on, helpers and people to pull the wood from under the cabin.
Please let me know.
Thank you.

Armstrong cabin - meet at Baker's gate
We’ll be heading up to the Armstrong Chalet on Sunday. It’s approximately one hour from Vernon to get there, and you’ll need a truck for sure to get in there. We’ll be meeting at Baker’s gate at 8:30. For those of you who don’t know:
- Go through Armstrong on Hwy 97N past the lights
- Turn right on Stepney Road – just before the railway tracks at the bottom of the hill
- Follow Stepney Road to the end where you have to go left or right
- Turn right, follow the road straight past Back Enderby Road
- The road makes a sharp left, but take the driveway/road straight ahead. The gate is at the end of that short road.
We’ll meet there and we can leave some trucks at the bottom if need be.
What to bring:
- Chainsaws, Chain for dragging logs, gas and oil
- Basic carpentry tools
- Ladders - extension and step ladders
What we plan to do:
- Cut firewood and load into the cabin
- Finish Vapor barrier inside the cabin.
- Possibly sheet some walls on the inside
- Build a railing and repair the stairs
- Haul siding in for future installation. We’ll stash this under the cabin for another day in case of snow which will prevent us from hauling it in later in the season.
Since we probably have 2-3 weekends here before snow flies, we’ll do the most important stuff here and work backwards from there. Future needs are siding the cabin, finishing the interior and doing trail clearing and inspection.
I need a volunteer as well to make a slow trip up on Sunday towing Dwayne’s trailer with the siding. It will probably be an hour or more from the gate, and you’ll need a 4 wheel drive with good tires to drag the trailer up there. Please let me know who’s available for that – we’ll meet at the bottom and the trailer will be there ready to go.
Thanks everyone. Call with any questions, 250 308 2830

October 8 work party (Silver Star Chalet):
Hello everyone,
We had a very, very successful day today. We got more work done than we expected to – the chalet looks awesome, best I’ve ever seen it in 17 years I’ve been with the club. It’s all ready for winter now and is finally safe, clean and well set for the winter.
- Back wall is covered with tin and looks fantastic - thanks Patti, John, and Ian for that.
- All the brush is cleared, raked and removed from around the cabin – Thanks to new member to be Terry Shoobridge, who landscaped the area around the cabin like it’s never been before.
- The front and back porch railings are painted and sealed up – thanks to Jan and Brian for that
- A large dangerous tree was removed from beside the trail, split and stacked, and the meadow trail was cleared - thanks to Carl Herzog and Bruce for that
- The chimneys got sealed up, thanks to Carl and Terry
- The trails around the cabin got looked at and cleaned up as well.
All in all it turned out great – Silver Star is ready to go for the season. Next work party will be at Armstrong.
Thanks to Ian, Jan, Bruce, Brian, Patti, John, Natalie, Carl and Terry for coming out and working so hard today.

-Removed all the old appliances and cupboards
-The whole load of wood got split.
-More clean up got done around the outside and in the basement
-Two loads of garbage hauled out.
Thanks also to Trevor Clarke (Okanagan Rec Rentals) and Brian for making the grueling trip up to the Armstrong cabin midweek, to haul building materials down and over to the SS Chalet.
